Awareness

Quizabled

SPARSH

Every year, since 2018, we collaborate with Seva in Action and Larsen & Toubro Infotech for the Quizabled program for children and young people who are disabled.The event is designed to include five different categories of disability; intellectual disability, cerebral palsy, autism spectrum disorder, visual impairment and hearing impairment. The aim of the Quizabled event is to provide a platform for the differently abled, to raise awareness by dispelling myths on specially abled children.

Participation from 489 students across 12 districts of Tamil Nadu.

SPASTN, Chennai is the Regional Learning Centre for Deafblindness for the Southern Region (SPARSH). SPARSH is the umbrella of services for persons with deafblindness and is supported by Sense International India. Under this initiative, we educate and train parents, officials, special educators and teachers who work with deafblind children. Our advocacy measures include awareness and sensitisation training on deafblindness, funded by the State Resource Training Centre (SRTC), Government of TamilNadu.

Cerebral Palsy Centre

Early Intervention Centre

Our Villivakkam centre is located in an accessible area and serves children from socially disadvantaged families. The Centre while specializing in Cerebral Palsy provides the entire continuum of Early Intervention Services, Special Education, Therapy interventions – Physiotherapy, Speech therapy and Sensory Integration therapy, and integrated support services.

The Villivakkam centre serves more than 121 Children

SPASTN is running an Early Intervention Centre for Cerebral Palsy at The State Resource Training Centre – KK Nagar. This centre provides the entire continuum of Early Intervention Services, Special Education, Therapy interventions – Physiotherapy, Speech therapy, Sensory Integration therapy, and integrated support services which can be availed here. This centre is supported by the Government of Tamil Nadu.

The KK Nagar Centre serves more 30 children.

Quality Structured Training and Education Program

Early Intervention and Education Program

This program supported by Larsen & Toubro Infotech Ltd. helps youth who are specially abled by providing skills training in block printing, weaving, tailoring, baking etc. Students are also trained in skills suitable for food,beverage and hospitality sector job placement. This program runs on a ‘person-centered’ approach and helps youth to integrate with society through pre-vocational training. The primary objective of the project is skilling of the students so that they can work in Sheltered workshops producing products and for others based on individual competencies  School-to-work programs.

Impact Number - 50 differently-abled youth trained

With the support of Ascendas Give Foundation, we have ensured quality education and rehabilitation for students with disabilities under the Readiness to Learn program. From children in lower kindergarten to the older children, we follow the student and family centered intervention. The children are trained in Physical Education, Social Readiness, Emotional Regulation, Literacy Numeracy Engagement and Experiential Service Learning.

Readiness to Learn has impacted more than 100 children

This unique program funded by Mindtree Foundation helped us throughout the lockdown when online learning became a necessity. This program focuses on the concept of Blended Education - special education and therapy services. The services are provided to every child and family at the SPASTN Royapuram Centre. Children under this program are provided with assistive devices assessment for vision/hearing and also families supported with internet pack support.

More than 60 children benefited from this program.

 

At our Taramani Centre, WIPRO Foundation has supported us in structuring a Quality Training and Education program. The project aims to provide mainstream education for students following the NIOS and State board curriculum.

The Svastya Early Intervention and Early Education program is supported by Giftabled Foundation. This project focuses on 0-6 year-olds and 6+ years in Thiruvallur district of Tamilnadu. This falls into our community rehabilitation programme in non-urban areas.
